Welcome
Welcome to the City of Georgetown public involvement page. This site is dedicated to identifying ways to participate in public matters, volunteer in your community, and learn about the way your city government functions.
This site, derived from the City of Georgetown’s Citizen Participation Plan that was adopted in April 2010, is intended to encourage public participation, provide education about civic matters, expand the City’s communication techniques, and gain public input and support for community actions.
Citizen Participation
The City of Georgetown welcomes citizen participation through many different avenues.
Volunteering to work at the Library, as a Park Ranger, or working with shelter animals are just a few ways of sharing your time.
Submitting an application to serve on the City’s boards and commissions is an exciting way to join in municipal policy discussions.
Additionally, there are public safety and community programs that you can get involved in - both in Georgetown and surrounding areas.
A great way to learn about individual City departments and their functions is to sign up for the Georgetown Citizen’s Academy.
The City posts a calendar of all public meetings, and you are welcome to attend. You can always find out what is being discussed at public hearings, workshops, and townhall meetings.
The City of Georgetown offers many ways to get in contact with City Staff or Elected Officials and information about our form of government.
Finally, an easy way to stay active in the governmental process is to Vote.
Volunteering Opportunities Abound
Volunteers are a crucial component of the departments and programs throughout the City of Georgetown.
For example, the Visitor’s Center relies on volunteers to help promote the history and culture of Georgetown. The library appreciates assistance from those interested in teaching, working with children, and helping people find important resources. Our public safety volunteers are a vital component in educating citizens, outreach to the many neighborhoods in Georgetown, and as a link to community assistance.

Citizens Academy
Citizens Academy, typically held twice a year in the Spring and Fall, is an opportunity you will enjoy. This program introduces you to the City departments that maintain your parks and streets, balance the budget, protect your neighborhood, and provide you with utilities.
This valuable introduction to municipal government is an excellent opportunity to meet City staff, learn about what you city does for you, and discuss issues with City leaders.
